About the Project
Since its inception, Broken Sound’s focus has been exceeding membership expectations. The latest update is a dramatic renovation of the entry drive, reprogrammed hospitality offerings, a clubhouse expansion and supporting outdoor spaces. For over a decade, Jennifer Morton has worked with John Crean, COO/General Manager, to successfully receive the necessary land use approvals for additional clubhouse square footage, a resort style pool, splash pad and expansive bistro and outdoor dining area. The JMorton team understands how members experience country club living and were able to justify a parking deviation for 390 parking spaces.
JMorton used their Landscape Architecture skills to create outdoor spaces which reflect the members vision and focus on future needs. The clubhouse renovation begins with a redesigned porte cochere and building entry vestibule. Decorative pavers were specifically selected to pair with the building finishes. The drop-off and porte cochere has been expertly graded for universal accessibility. The selected tree palette frames the building in harmony with existing trees. The lush shrub beds feature layered native and naturalized exotics in a display of varied leaf textures, color and seasonal flowering for year-round color.
The clubhouse terrace provides expansive views of the golf course. To preserve those views, the terrace edge is defined with a low, transparent plexiglass railing interspersed with columns that tie to the clubhouse building materials. Along its length, hardscape and landscape materials seamlessly combine to provide a transition between the interior and exterior facilities of the club, catering to sport, pool, and dining guests. Strategically placed planter islands extend the interior spaces to the terrace by defining outdoor rooms, channeling desirable views, and transitioning between dining areas.
A garden terrace adjacent to the formal dining room enhances the dining experience. Between the second-floor bistro terrace and administrative offices, a shade garden with a variety of large leaf shrubs and ferns combined with exotic palms creates a quiet escape. Even from the elevated vantage point of the second floor, the viewer is treated to a lush vegetative plant palette.
